Angelina Gooden, Judge of the 280th Family District Court, was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to fulfill the unexpired term through December 2018.
Angelina is a graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law and a member of the State Bar of Texas. She obtained her Masters of Arts in Urban Affairs and Human Resources from Norfolk State University, and her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Prior to taking the bench, Angelina practiced law since 1989, working for both private law firms and in the non-profit sector as a contract attorney with Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse for 11 years.
Angelina has been a speaker on protective orders and domestic violence issues over the years. She was a board member of the Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. a domestic violence shelter, is a member of the Texas Council on Family Violence and has previously served as a volunteer on the Houston Council on Domestic Violence. As an attorney, Angelina represented litigants in all types of family law cases and served as an Amicus Attorney/Attorney Ad Litem to protect the interest of children. Angelina was also appointed by four Harris County Family Law Judges to serve as a Special Master to hear family law cases and served as a Continuing Legal Education Presenter in family law seminars and was the City Attorney for the City of Prairie View, Texas.
Angelina is the youngest child of military veterans. Angelina is a longstanding member of the New Covenant Christian Church. Angelina is a loving wife for over 28 years, a mother of four and grandmother of three.
